D-Day veterans have spent the week in Normandy to mark the 74th anniversary of D-Day, the battle that turned the tide against Hitler during the Second World War. On June 6, 1944, 156,000 Allied troops landed on the coast of northern France as part of Operation Neptune, the largest seaborne invasion in history. It is estimated there were at least 10,000 casualties among the Allies on the first day, with more than 4,000 confirmed dead.
